How to Keep Girls Active in Girl Scouts

Here are some ways to keep up as a troop when you can’t meet in-person.

Things to Do as a

TROOP
Email or post in your private troop facebook page or website about things to do each week as a troop, such as:

  • Host a virtual troop meeting!
  • Agree to watch the same movie
  • Agree to read the same book
  • Do the same YouTube yoga or dance class
  • Suggest different ways to do the same craft
  • Earn a cooking fun patch by encouraging the girls to help make a meal for their family
  • Earn the same badge
  • Work on a Journey together

INDIVIDUAL GIRL
Email or post in your private troop facebook page about things to do each week as individual Girl Scouts, such as:

  • Earn a badge on their own or with their family
  • Earn fun patch (for ideas, visit Advantage Emblem.com or our council shop)
  • Find ways to put the Girl Scout Law into action at home and share with the troop
  • Find a “Family Service Project” in place or Community Service Project (Share the Harvest)
  • Host a virtual sing-a-long or campfire

Virtual Meeting Outline

If your troop is meeting virtually and you are having a hard time keeping the girls focused, maybe having a structure will help.

  • Arrival Activity: Consider having a welcome question on the screen for the girls to answer either in the chat box or on screen. For example ask if they did a good deed today or lately.
  • Opening Ceremony: Recite the Girl Scout Promise and Law or other opening activities your girls enjoy.
  • Business: You can share any news and agenda items here.
  • Your Activity: This is a great time to work on a badge or Journey activities! Think about what you can send the girls beforehand so that they can come in prepared to interact. Keep it short! You might need to continue with the activity at the next meeting.
  • Closing: A modified Friendship Circle is possible! Instead of squeezing a hand, each girl say the name of another person in your virtual circle after she makes her wish.
